Alive in Christ, and Dead to Sin

God is love. God created us out of love. The very nature of love is that it is to be shared and experienced by others. So we can agree – God really loves us. That’s how we got here.

Jesus set us free from sin (because He loves us) when He removed the penalty of sin for all who place their faith in Him. Death was the penalty for sin (Adam/Eve, the garden). Jesus conquered death, and his sacrifice on the cross covered sin for everyone, forever. Eternal life has been given to all who believe in Him (reborn, and restored to our original image – like Adam and Eve before they ate of the tree). Death cannot touch us. Sin has no power over us.

He gave us sonship. He made us a holy nation – a royal priesthood.

He gave us the Holy Spirit. He gave us power through the Holy Spirit to overcome – all things.

He called us to be Holy.

He made us joint heirs with Christ.

He calls us Saints.

He freed us from sin, to bear fruit unto Holiness.

He paid the highest price – to forgive us, redeem us, restore us (to original value), and reconcile us with God. We are now reconciled to God! Justified through Christ. Judged righteous! That’s not a small thing.

We are in fact children of the Almighty King!

We are the light of the world.

Where there is light, there can be no darkness.

Church – please do not identify with your ability to sin, as if that is who you are or designed to be, or as if that is the main commonality that we hold as the Body of Christ! Instead, identify with the TRUTH – which is that Jesus has come, and that he has taken residence through the spiritual re-birth that has taken place in each of us that believe! We are new creations! We are spiritual beings – and our old nature (sin nature) has died, and our new (spiritual) life is in Christ!

This understanding and mindset is so important. We are to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. We who continue in the faith, who are yielded to Him, who are obedient to Him – and are earnestly seeking Him –  are not “sinners”… we have been transformed into His righteousness through the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ! We are the Bride of Christ! And this is everything!

“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.”

‭‭- 1 John‬ ‭3:1b‬ ‭ESV‬

“My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.”

‭‭- 1 John‬ ‭2:1-2‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God.”

‭‭- 1 John‬ ‭3:9‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.”

‭‭- 1 John‬ ‭5:18‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?”

‭‭- 1 John‬ ‭5:1-5‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.”

‭‭- Philippians‬ ‭1:10-11‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life.”

‭‭- Romans‬ ‭6:22‬ ‭

It is no longer I that live, but Christ that lives in me!

Thank you Jesus for new life, sonship, and a brand-new identity! May our faith reflect and be built upon this truth.
